17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office Files First-Degree Murder Charges in Two Separate Adams County Homicides

Brighton, CO —Today, the 17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office is announcing the filing of First-Degree Murder charges in two separate Adams County homicide cases from the end of 2022. 

18-year-old Dartagnan Smith has been charged with First-Degree Murder related to the death of a 40-year-old man in an apartment along Washington Avenue in Northglenn on December 22, 2022. 

Smith's charges include:
  • First-Degree Murder (F1)
  • Second-Degree Murder (F2)
  • Aggravated Robbery (F3)
Case number 2023CR000018 was filed in Adams County District Court. Smith's next court appearance will be on March 31, 2023, at 1:30pm.  

35-year-old Jason Capps has been charged with First-Degree Murder related to the death of his 34-year-old wife in a room at the Super 8 Motel along I-76 in Henderson on December 31, 2022. 

Capps' charges include:

 
  • First-Degree Murder (F1)
Case number 2023CR000020 was filed in Adams County District Court. Capps' next court appearance will be on March 7, 2023, at 8:30am. 

The filing of a criminal charge is merely a formal accusation that an individual(s) committed a crime(s) under Colorado laws. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. See Colo RPC 3.6.
